Seedling Tree Planting

Why plant seedling trees?
  1. Riparian Buffers
  2. Wind Breaks

Riparian Buffer

What is a Riparian Buffer?

A Riparian Buffer is refers to land adjacent to streams where vegetation is strongly influenced by the presence of water. They contain native grasses, flowers, shrubs and trees that line the stream banks.

Benefits to land from planting a Riparian Buffer
  • Good Water Quality
  • Prevent sediment, nitrogen, phosphorus, pesticides, and other pollutants from reaching a stream
  • Major source of energy and nutrients for stream communities
  • Riparian vegetation keeps streams cool
  • Provide valuable habitat for wildlife
  • Forested streamsides benefit game species such as deer, rabbit, quail, and nongame species like migratory songbirds
  • Riparian vegetation slows floodwaters, thereby helping to maintain stable streambanks and protect downstream property
  • Continuous CRP
